What is Metal Jali?

A metal jali is a decorative perforated screen cut from MS or SS flat sheet. The word "jali" (from Hindi/Urdu) refers to a lattice or grid — traditionally found in Mughal architecture as stone or carved wood screens. In modern construction, laser cut jali reproduces these patterns precisely in metal, with consistent hole geometry and sharp edges that hand-cutting cannot achieve.

Metal mesh refers to a regularly perforated sheet — round, square or slot holes in a uniform grid pattern. It is a subset of jali design, used more for functional applications (ventilation, machine guards, speaker grilles) than for decorative work. Both are produced using the same CNC fiber laser process.

SS Jali Design — Stainless Steel Jali

SS jali design uses stainless steel sheet (typically SS 304 or SS 202) as the base material. The advantages of SS jali are:

• Naturally corrosion-resistant — no paint or coating required
• Available in mirror polish or brushed (satin) finish
• Ideal for interior partitions, lift panels and premium facades
• Suitable for coastal environments and high-humidity spaces
• Thickness typically 0.8mm–2mm for jali applications

MS Jali Design — Mild Steel Jali

MS jali design uses mild steel sheet as the base. MS is cost-effective and allows cutting up to 10mm thickness, making it suitable for structural applications as well as decorative ones. Key points:

• Must be powder coated or painted for exterior use to prevent rust
• Available in any RAL powder coat colour
• More economical than SS for large-area panels
• Common for compound gates, window grilles and exterior screens
• Thickness typically 1mm–3mm for jali; up to 10mm for structural panels
